How to play Flexicon

Find today's hidden word in 6 guesses. A new word comes out every day at midnight Eastern, and it can be 5, 6, 7 or 8 letters long. Every guess must be a real English word.

Green: right letter, right spot.
Gold: the letter is in the word, but somewhere else.
Grey: the letter is not in the word.

Letter values

Common letters are cheap and rare letters are worth more, based on how often each letter appears in English text.

Scoring

A tile scores when it tells you something new: a green in a new spot, or a gold letter you hadn't found yet.
A scoring tile earns its letter value plus a placement bonus: +1 for gold (right letter, wrong spot) or +2 for green (right letter, right spot). Gold O and E score (1 + 2) + (1 + 1) = 5; a green O would score 2 + 2 = 4.
Your winning row is your play: every tile in it scores, and it collects the bonus squares from its own row and every unused row below it. Solve early to collect them all.
You can't guess the same word twice.
Your row points add up, then get multiplied by how early you solved it: ×6 on guess 1, ×5 on guess 2, ×4 on guess 3, ×3 on guess 4, ×2 on guess 5 and ×1 on guess 6. Missing the word halves your points.

Bonus squares

DLDouble letter: that tile's letter value ×2 (green or gold). TLTriple letter: that tile's letter value ×3 (green or gold). DWDouble word: the whole row ×2, only on the row where you solve the word. TWTriple word: the whole row ×3, only on the row where you solve the word.

The bonus layout is new each day and the same for everyone, so scores are comparable. An AI model checks that unfamiliar guesses are real dictionary words.
